Please On behalf of the Eastern Society for Women in Philosophy, I announce the creation of a new award, the SWIP Distinguished Philosopher Award, to replace the Distinguished Women Philosopher Award. The title of and criteria for this award were developed through extended conversation with representatives of North American SWIP chapters (past or current officers, or previously active members in those chapters that had been on hiatus). The conversation, convened by me on behalf of ESWIP, and moderated by Ann Garry, was prompted by expressed concerns about a lack of inclusivity in the original title of and criteria for the award. The revisions reflect a robust consensus among the participants in the conversation about the purpose this award should serve. Louise Antony Steering Committee, Eastern SWIP The SWIP Distinguished Philosopher Award E-SWIP is now accepting nominations for the 2022 SWIP Distinguished Philosopher Award, formerly the Distinguished Woman Philosopher Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize persons who (a) have made outstanding contributions to the field of philosophy, through scholarship, teaching or service, and (b) have significantly promoted gender justice in the field. We encourage nomination of any philosopher who belongs to a gender group subject to discrimination or marginalization, including cis women, trans women, trans men, nonbinary individuals, and individuals with queer gender identities. All nominations should include the nominee’s Curriculum Vitae and at least two letters of recommendation describing (a) the candidate’s contributions to the field of philosophy, and (b) the candidate's work promoting gender justice in philosophy or supporting individuals from groups who have suffered discrimination or marginalization because of their gender identity. Anyone previously nominated for the SWIP Distinguished Philosopher Award is eligible, and nomination materials from previous years will be accepted in the current round.
