Dear FEAST-list:

Thank you in advance for bringing the position described below to
the attention of qualified candidates.

The Philosophy Department at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA
has a tenure-track assistant professor opening, beginning August 2010.
We will be looking for someone whose areas of specialization include
some or all of the following: aesthetics (broadly construed, to include
philosophy of literature, film, art, music, media, and so on); applied
ethics; philosophy of race; non-western philosophy. Areas of competence
are open. A completed PhD in philosophy is strongly preferred by time
of appointment. The teaching load is five courses a year on the
semester system, though first-year assistant professors have a reduced
teaching load of four courses. Participation in the College's Core
curriculum is expected. There are the usual non-teaching duties. An ad
for this opening has already appeared in the summer web edition of Jobs
for Philosophers and will be repeated in later web and print editions.
Complete dossiers, including a letter highlighting a fit with this
job description, a CV, three letters of recommendation, evidence of
teaching excellence, and a sample of written work, should be sent to:

Ms. Jacquelyn Moon, Administrative Assistant
Philosophy Department
Occidental College
1600 Campus Road
Los Angeles, CA 90041-3314

Inquiries can be made to Ms. Moon at [log in to unmask] or to Prof.
Marcia Homiak (Philosophy Department chair) at [log in to unmask]
