Hello! My department is hiring, as well. Here is the ad (below); Philosophy is one of the PhD areas. I was hired with a joint PhD in Philosophy and English from Purdue (for a feminist theory position, back when the department was Women's Studies).

Job posting:

The Department of Gender and Race Studies at The University of Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor appointment specializing in Sociology, Race, and Gender. We seek candidates whose sociological research addresses outcomes in specific environments and communities, such as prisons, schools, housing, the workplace, urban and rural populations, and immigrant and refugee populations. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests include feminist and racial critiques of sociological methods; approaches to issues of race and gender in medical, psychological, or prison history; biological and/or medical anthropology; digital technologies, including mapping technologies and DH tools; the impact of new health technologies on marginalized populations; the challenges or opportunities for social justice offered by digital environments; reproductive justice; approaches to environmental sustainability and environmental justice; or pollution studies. Candidates are expected to demonstrate expertise in sociological theories of race, gender, class, and sexuality. Candidates from a variety of relevant PhD specializations are welcome to apply, including but not limited to Sociology, African American Studies, Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Geography, Queer and Trans Studies, Anthropology, the Biological Sciences, Rural Health Studies, History, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Philosophy, English, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Media and Cultural Studies.

This is a department where faculty teach and conduct research in their respective field of expertise within the disciplines of Women's Studies and African American Studies. The Department of Gender and Race Studies was formed in 2009 out of the two programs of study: Women's Studies and African American Studies, each of which had been at the University of Alabama for more than forty years. Offering an undergraduate major in African American Studies and minors in African American Studies and Women's Studies, the Department fulfills an important academic mission for the University and has more than 5,000 students take classes in its courses and programs each year. The MA in Women's Studies is a research program from which graduates go on to attend top-tier PhD programs and law schools around the country, as well as work in the not-for-profit sector throughout the region in fields related to Gender and Race Studies. The normal teaching load for this position is two courses a semester. Salary and benefits are competitive. This is a tenure-earning position: the expectation is that the person hired will fulfill the research, teaching, and service requirements for tenure and promotion. ABD applicants will be considered, but a completed PhD before Fall 2022 is a requirement for employment at the announced rank and position. The appointment will begin August 16, 2022.

Attach a letter of application and curriculum vitae. For more information, contact the search committee chair Dr. Utz McKnight, at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2021, and will continue until the position is filled.
