 Hi Andrea,

Yeah, a new paper every 20 seconds definitely sounds like overkill...a quantity over quality tradeoff!

Here's a paper I found online that seems like a decent review of Pepper's World Hypotheses and their relation to psychology, though the author's have a bias towards behavior analysis and contextualism, if you're interested.

 Hi Jason and everyone;
Unluckily, I am not familiar with Pepper's work, so, I don't know.
But I was having an exchange with Gregg privately and an interesting data comes out that I want to share with you.
In the paper you'll see a daunting data: we have about 437 papers published EACH day in scientific psychology. that is, roughly 3 papers each minute. that is, one new paper every 20 seconds.
how much of it is crap? probably, a lot.
best,A

 Hi Andrea,

Excellent article!

I'd be curious to know how Pepper's Four World Hypotheses, (Formism, Mechanism, Organicism, & Contextualism), are implicitly distributed throughout psychology, assuming different areas of inquiry within psychology are more or less implicitly philosophically grounded in those four worldviews.

I suspect that cognitive psychology and neuroscience are generally grounded in Mechanism, and Behaviorism and much clinical psychology is grounded in Contextualism. I'm not sure what psychoanalysis would be grounded in.

It would be interesting if theoretical / scientific psychology tends to be grounded in Mechanism, and if clinical psychology tends to be grounded in Contextualism since Mechanism and Contextualism are diametrically opposed to each other. It might go a long ways in understanding why there is such a huge gap between scientific and clinical psychology, due to such fundamentally different ontologically and epistemologically assumptions.

Hi ToKers, Andrea Zagaria here. I recently published a paper on trends in Psychology.Full text here.
Long story short: nihil novum sub sole, yet another (useful?) empirical confirm that Psychology is
a) pre-paradigmatic
 b) more applied than theoretical
c) insular (i.e. sadly, no cross-fertilization across sub-disciplines even though academics love to claim they are "interdisciplinary")
Let me know what you think. I have recently focused on metascientific works with a quantitative flavor and I've been loving it.
Best
