ToK List,

Very interesting!

Two things:

(1). Is there an online test available that could show what tribe(s) one is in or sympathizes with?

(2). "Tribes" is an interesting analogy. I'm reminded of how anthropologists categorize four forms of political organization: bands, tribes, chiefdoms, and states

So I wonder if these memetic tribes could be categorized somewhat along these lines. Maybe four memetic "chiefdoms" with roughly eight memetic "tribes" in each memetic "chiefdom", for example?

Dear TOK List,

On the way to work today, I listed to TOK list member Peter Limberg’s excellent discussion of Culture War 2.0. Peter is the leader of the Intellectual Explorers Club in Toronto. This 30 minute overview of the multipolar war we find ourselves in is outstanding.

I strongly recommend you take the time to listen. There is MUCH in here that I think is really worth digesting. The analysis of how we got here, what it means, how it connects to the meaning crisis, how we need to take a “grey pill” (instead of the Blue or Red pill), why we need authentic dialogue and so forth.

Also, I loved his description at the 12th minute 30 second about how he thinks about these issues, especially the meaning crisis…as being the “lack of a grand metanarrative that justifies and ecology of practices…”

That is almost EXACTLY how Waldemar Schmidt talked about what we needed going forward at the first TOK conference. We needed an ultimate justification frame for our justification systems.

Best,

Gregg
