Hi TOK List,
The other day in my doctoral class, we had an interesting discussion about diversity. In regards to gender, I shared how it was very obvious when I first learned about feminism in the late 1980s and applied that lens to see that there were many examples that were apparent all around me in my personal life that women were treated with less power and respect. That has changed such that I told my class that as I empathized with my two daughters and my son, I could not say that my son had inherently more privilege by virtue of his maleness in communities and contexts that we reside. When I asked my oldest daughter, Sydney, she generally agreed that it was complicated and unclear. She acknowledged there were some ways in which boys/young men had advantages and did not have certain fears, but quickly countered with other examples and said it was definitely not obvious to here that her brother Jon had more general privilege.

I was reminded of that conversation as I read this article today:

Best,
Gregg
