Sonya,

By my reading of the Stray Objects rule, the ref could be asked to 
relocate the ball to an equivalently non-scoring location on the 
table. However, if the kids plan to later obtain points with that 
ball, then of course the ref can't be asked to help in that endeavor 
by moving the ball to a more advantageous location for the robot to 
retrieve it, by replacing it on its original rubber ring, or by 
moving it to Base or handing it to the kids.

My interpretation the rule is that it pertains to objects littering 
the playing surface that are no longer of interest to the team
