The Strength Machine is designed to have resistance when raising the bar.

In step 19 of the build instructions (from Bag 6/7), you can see that one
of the resistance gears is held by a tan pin (turns easily) and one is held
by a blue pin (high friction).

I don't know how the resistance might compare between models after they are
used for a while.
