Greetings Jr.FLL Teams,

I send you greetings, and I hope that you have been having fun with SUPER SENIORSSM Challenge this season!

I’m still very much in the planning stages, but I’d like to invite Jr.FLL teams to join me at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab on Saturday, January 5th for a small Jr.FLL Expo.

Please let me know if your team is interested in participating no later than Friday, December 14, 2012.

Jr.FLL Expo
Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab
11100 Johns Hopkins Road
Laurel, MD 20723

Getting Here:

We will meet at the JHU Applied Physics Lab in Laurel (11100 Johns Hopkins Road, Laurel, Maryland 20723) in the Kossiakoff Center (campus map<http://www.jhuapl.edu/aboutapl/visitor/mapcampus.asp>).

Don’t’ forget:

• Bring completed and signed consent and release forms for the coach, mentors and student participants.

• Bring payment in the amount of $30 per team. This covers 6 medals, 6 certificates, 1 trophy and 1 coach pin per team and materials for team banners and the event. Payment is due at the time of registration.

• Bring your model, Show-Me poster and extra batteries for your motor.

• Bring your gracious professionalism!

3:45 PM – 4:00 PM
Jr.FLL Reviewers Select Special Awards, Team Banner Activity
4:10 PM
Jr.FLL Teams line-up to prepare for Parade of Teams and High Fives Ceremony
At the conclusion of ceremony, take down Jr.FLL displays and clean up.
Note: Times are approximate, based on the schedule of the FLL Qualifier.

• The schedule is short and sweet on purpose! Our intention is to have your team members actively engaged during the brief time that we will spend together. I hope that you will take some time after our Jr.FLL Expo to observe the teams participating in the FLL Qualifier.

• Your team will be provided with one table (no chairs). Store any containers/materials/jackets under your table.

• When your team is not speaking with reviewers or interacting with the public and other Jr.FLL teams, there will be a poster creation activity (I’ll bring cut-outs, glue and markers).

• It is advised that one adult monitor your team’s table at all times. Your model is made of LEGOs and is quite irresistible to little hands. As a Jr.FLL coach, one of my biggest tasks during meetings is keeping our team members from taking apart what they have already built!

• WeDo teams, we cannot guarantee an electrical outlet for your laptops. Please charge your laptop batteries and bring an extra battery if possible.

• Please supervise your team members at all times. Absolutely no running or horse play.

• Our Junior FIRST LEGO League event is open to the public and is free of charge for spectators.

Coaches, let the children shine! All teams will receive written feedback from the judges at the conclusion of the event. This is NOT a competition – every team will receive a trophy and medals, every child will be celebrated. Gracious professionalism is the rule of the day, and be sure to thank our volunteers and reviewers.

Take care,

Denise M. Lewis
