On page 2 of the Introduction to Femininity and Domination, Sandy gives a brief but very nice narrative of the first SWIP meeting, which further confirms that it was in 1971.

In case anyone is interested, she also told me on the phone that Faye Sawyier was denied tenure at IIT, had the resources to sue (her husband was an attorney), and did so successfully.

The reason I think so is that in 1972 I was visibly pregnant but in 1971 I eagerly responded to the call, flying in from Cincinnati and stopping only briefly on State Street to buy a newly fashionable maxi-skirt (to replace my mini skirt). Sandy Bartky was impressed by my style, invited me to spent the night at her house, and the rest is history! In my view, this memory provides overwhelming evidence that mid-west SWIP was founded in 1971, not 1972.
