So my school system will NOT do the replacement app either. Here is the
answer I received from technology:

Android apps are not supported in our Chrome environment since they are not
specifically written for the Chrome OS.  Additionally the Android apps are
not compliant with FERPA.  This is unfortunate that LEGO is no longer
providing a Chrome OS app.
